Carpet

CARPET

Carpet is a textile floor covering typically consisting of an upper layer of pile attached to a backing. The pile was traditionally made from wool, but since the 20th century, synthetic fibers such as polypropylene, nylon or polyester are often used, as these fibers are less expensive than wool. There are main pile styles available such as cut pile (exposed fibers are sheared off), plush pile which is a densely packed pile making the carpet rich and luxurious, textured cut (relatively long cut fibers twisted together and kinked causing them to erratically curl across the surface of the carpet), Saxony Cut (fibers very soft and dense – shag carpets fall into this category), etc.

The main appeal of carpet is its ability to provide a cushiony, warm surface underfoot.

CARPET TILES

Carpet Tiles, also known as modular carpets or square carpets are squares cut from wall-to-wall rolls, which can be fitted together to make a carpet, and made from the same various fibers and piles as regular carpets. Manufactures traditionally use different types of backing for these tiles. There are justly popular as a flooring option for commercial installations such as in bars and restaurants, and other relatively uncomplicated projects as they are durable and designed to withstand heavy traffic/wear & tear, spills etc. An advantage of carpet tiles is the easy of replacement of a damaged tile and not the entire carpet, as well as the ability to customize the patterns/look.
